Days Of Wine And More Wine

All of the photos you see here are from my recent trip to the
Napa Valley!
Autumn is certainly a great time to visit,
the colors were absolutely beautiful!
There wasn't a cloud to be found in the skies and the weather was glorious!
I may just have developed a taste for the vino :-)
and the volcanic ash mud baths in Calistoga were heavenly!
The time spent with my daughter Autumn, priceless!!
This trip was her birthday present from me for her
30th Trip Around The Sun!
We sang Happy Birthday to her while we of course watched
'Taylor's Trip Around The Sun' video!
LOL it's a lot harder to sing in unison than Happy Birthday To You!
Though I still wasn't able to turn her on to Taylor Hicks' music, she thoroughly enjoyed the video and thought he looked like a young George Clooney!
She told me Taylor's voice was too country for her taste, her comment was what prompted my last blog post ...
Is Country The Answer?
Only time will tell ...
And in the meantime I hope you enjoy our Wine Country photos!

Is Country The Answer?

The A.I Taylor Hicks hooked us, but it was the acoustical Taylor who reeled most of us in permanently.
As we sit and listen we are spellbound, this is when the magic of Taylor Hicks' artistry really shines.
We long for the moments of just Taylor and his stool, and when it happens the excitement level just skyrockets.
The same phenomenon happens when he begins to play his harp, we are on the edge of our seats straining not to miss a moment of the magic taking place.
Taylor made us sit up and take notice from the moment he appeared on our television screens.
Here was a young man who had the ability to not only sing his heart out, but to entertain us at the same time.
He made the music come alive!
He asked for his voice to be heard and to give him a chance.
We voted to give him that chance, but the PTB and the radio industry have discounted our votes and have not embraced Taylor.
Which brings me back to the title of this topic ... is Country the answer for Taylor Hicks?
The following is an excerpt from an article that appeared in 2001.
The only part I am not in agreement with is the reference to "payola".
I am totally convinced that though it is illegal, it is still taking place.
You just have to look at who has dominated the AC charts since the beginning of this year, to have no doubts about what is happening.
.....
"Most new songs cannot become popular without the medium we know as radio. After all, people won't usually buy CDs without hearing at least one song first, and the place they hear it is usually on the air.
So who is it that decides what is played on the radio and how?
The Radio Industry
During most of the last century, many independent radio stations had DJs who chose the music they played on the air. Many developed legions of hard-core fans who tuned into their shows regularly. Listeners depended on their favorite DJs to introduce them to new songs. Good DJs knew their audiences and could predict which songs would become hits.
These days, large corporations own most of the radio stations. They are in business to make money and play the music they think will lure audiences and sell advertising. (The exception is non-commercial, or public, stations that don't play ads and depend on listeners and corporations to send in donations.)
Some people say that large corporations are less willing than individual DJs to take a risk on new or innovative music, and therefore don't offer listeners as much variety.
One thing commercial stations can't do is accept money from record companies or musicians in return for playing their music. That's illegal, and known in the business as "payola."
"Since the early days of Rock and Roll on the radio there have been numerous rumors of payola in the radio industry, but very few have ever gone to court, and only a few of those have ever led to convictions," said Reed Bunzel, editor-in-chief of the radio industry Web site Gavin.com.
At commercial stations, DJs play songs from a pre-selected playlist put together by the station management based on what they think listeners want to hear. The DJ's job is mostly to entertain listeners with talk between songs and introduce the music. He or she has little choice or input for song selection at most stations.
There are about 10,000 commercial stations in the U.S. and about 2,500 non-commercial stations. The most popular format in the U.S. is Country Music. That means Country Music dominates the airwaves, but not the record stores. "

Acoustical Taylor fits quite nicely into the Country Music genre.

A perfect example, 'The Fall' written by Taylor Hicks
from his 1999 CD 'In Your Time'
This video is from his concert appearance in Waukegon, IL

Would the Country Music Industry embrace Taylor now, and give him the recognition he deserves?

Obviously it will be up to Taylor whether he chooses that direction, and with the promise of more acoustical music from him ... is it a possibility?

Your comments are welcome.

The Biggest Little City In The World

If you are asking yourself what does Reno have to do with Taylor Hicks??
The answer is absolutely nothing!

My blog today is just to let you know that I'll be away visiting my daughter who lives in Reno. I will be away til the 24th and I'm not sure if I will be blogging from there.

All year long I hoped that Taylor would have a concert appear in his schedule at one of the many casinos in and around the Reno and Lake Tahoe area .. alas it was not to be. Yes, I am bad ... I would have scheduled the visit with my daughter to coincide with a Taylor concert!

Well it is now time for me to be a good mother, so I'm going to see her new house and celebrate her 30th birthday. I shall miss my little pond, hope it doesn't fill up with too many leaves!
Ciao, Bloom

Reading IS Fundamental

Taylor Hicks got caught reading!

WHAT WOULD YOU BE CAUGHT READING?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Taylor got caught reading 'Brother Ray' by Ray Charles and David Ritz, a notable choice!

Once again, Taylor Hicks makes us proud!

'Alabama Gets Caught Reading'

Nine notable native Alabamians were “caught reading” for this year’s “Alabama Gets Caught Reading” poster series being distributed throughout the state by the Alabama Center for the Book at Auburn University.
Among the celebrities caught reading were American Idol Taylor Hicks, Pulitzer-Prize winner Cynthia Tucker, Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson and Heroes actor Ashley Crow.
More than 45,000 posters will be distributed by the Alabama Center for the Book to every school, library and bookstore in the state, as well as literacy centers and other locations serving children and young people.

For more information on the project, or to request a free set of posters while supplies last, please call the Alabama Center for the Book at (334) 844-4946 or acftb@auburn.edu.

Books, to the reading child, are so much more than books ... they are the dreams and knowledge, they are a future, and a past.

What would you catch me reading?

I've been a voracious reader since I first learned to read and have many fond memories of weekly trips to the library with my older sister who encouraged my love of books.
I tend to be drawn to mostly fiction and romantic suspense in particular!
I generally read 4-5 books a week and I am currently finishing up Mary Higgins Clark's 'I'll Be Seeing You' and eagerly anticipating beginning Stephenie Meyer's 'New Moon'.

"The best of a book is not the thought which it contains, but the thought which it suggests; just as the charm of music dwells not in the tones, but in the echoes of our hearts."
Oliver Wendall Holmes

Have a great day and remember to not only take time to smell the flowers, but to also take time to curl up with a good book!

Moondance

I do believe that Autumn has arrived, from 90 to 50 degrees seemingly overnight! It is my favorite season, and the reason I named my beautiful daughter, Autumn!

The October skies brought to mind one of my favorite Van Morrison songs that I would love Taylor to add to his set list or even better ... to record it!

Can't you just imagine Taylor's take on this song, there would be even more thudding than when he sings 'let's get it on'!

Van Morrison's "MOONDANCE"
Well it's a marvellous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
to the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft & low
You know the night's magic
Seems to whisper & hush
And all the soft moonlight
Seems to shine in your blush ....
Can I just have one a' more moondance
With you, my love?
Can I just make some more romance
With a' you, my love?
Well I wanna make love to you tonight
I can't wait till the morning has come
And I know the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you're never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true dear
There and then I will make you my own
And everytime I touch you
You just tremble inside
And I know how much you want me
That, you can't hide ....

Ready for your moondance ???

Naked In The Jungle

SPEAK OUT! SPEAK OUT! SPEAK OUT!

This song has been on my mind a lot recently. At first I started to create another canvas for the Dream Series, after playing with it for 2 days I decided ... that boat won't float!
So we won't be travelling by boat this time around!
(Couldn't bring myself to use the image that most relates to this song!)

It's a jungle out there and not a bit like the whimsical image above!
The lions and tigers and sharks have even invaded Taylor's Soul Patrol. What started out as friendly, supportive fan bases has evolved into places where people not only feel it is okay to criticize every move Taylor does or doesn't make, they also think it is perfectly fine to bash other posters. All in the name of a right to a difference of opinion!
RUBBISH!
Well I'm speaking out and I say it's wrong and not because I am a Kool Aid drinker ... personally I can't stand the stuff! Pop Tarts either for that matter!

What I do love is the music of Taylor Hicks and the way that music weaves it's way into my heart and makes my soul sing!
For me that is what it's all about!
